The many different types of personal success

As the old adage goes, one man’s trash is another man’s treasure. While this saying generally refers to people’s material possessions, it can also be applied to the concept of personal success. The way a person perceives success may not be the same as the way his neighbor perceives it. Being happy and content is a truly subjective matter.

In fact, there is no limit to the types of success that exist. Below are five such types for you to ponder:

1. Personal success has to do with health
For some people, being happy and content means having a healthy existence. You may not necessarily be the strongest person on the block, but as long as you are free of any dreaded disease, or can perform most physical exercises without issue, you may consider yourself in a good place. This kind of success is especially true for the elderly; the older you get, the more your physical health becomes the be all and end all. After all, it’s better to live your twilight years to the fullest, and you can’t if you’re incapacitated.

2. Personal success has to do with family
If you are a more traditional person, being happy and content means being surrounded by your own flesh and blood. Many people these days end up living away from their families by choice, but there are some people who consider proximity to their families an absolute necessity for their happiness and success. This kind of success can also mean having a happy and healthy family of your own. In any case, it is about having your family close at all times.

3. Personal success has to do with money
The saying that money can’t buy happiness may seem universal, but in truth, there really are some people who can’t consider themselves happy and content unless they’re rolling in the dough. To each his own, right? There really are some people who have built their lives around accumulating as much financial wealth as possible, and we can’t blame them for linking their wealth to their happiness and contentment. However, as much as possible, try not to be as materialistic as these types of people.

4. Personal success has to do with knowledge
Some people consider themselves happy and content once they have accumulated enough knowledge over the years. You don’t necessarily have to be a true academic blue to think this way, of course. Even being able to learn all you can about the immediate world around you can be enough of a treat. Suffice it to say that people who consider knowledge to be success can achieve their goals much easier than other people, since knowledge can be obtained anytime and anywhere in this information age.

5. Personal success has to do with freedom
This kind of success is for people who have been heavily shackled by tradition and authority their entire lives. If you are the type who has been suffocated by your parents, or trapped by your dead-end jobs, or hampered by some kind of disability, then freedom is definitely what can make you truly happy and content in life. It may not be an easy journey towards your goals, but you can be sure that once you have achieved them, the world will become absolutely wonderful.

Success can be found in countless aspects of life, and it’s really up to you to figure out what kind of success is right up your alley. Once you determine that, you can start working towards that particular goal. It may not be that easy at times, but the rewards will definitely be worth it.
