When you have to read faster than normal, 17 tips

Here are seventeen systems, methods, approaches.

System One. The easiest and least painful way to read faster is to think that way and act on it, forcing yourself to read faster. Just run your eyes across the page a little faster each time you pick up a book, magazine, or publication. It works well when you’re standing in line at the grocery store, waiting at the doctor’s or dentist’s office.

System Two. Watch movies and short films with subtitles and try to read the lines. It will seem difficult at first, but it’s an exercise that will propel you a little faster when choosing a post to read. If anything, it will make you a bit uncomfortable with reading. That can be a good thing. Giving those brain cells a little exercise is good.

System Three. One of my favorites is to get an audio book and follow along as the narrator reads the work aloud. This has a double effect. You see the words and then you hear them. But it goes a bit further with sound effects and increased reading speed. You can’t help but read a little faster. The best part is when you put the book down for a while and come back to the book, only to start from the beginning. You will find yourself reading a little faster. You’re going through the same material, but what happens with the special effects is incredible. One’s mental attitude changes for the better. You will never be the same again after experiencing audiobooks. The more time you spend in this arena, the better.

System Four. Of course, you can always buy a speed or speed reading program that guides you at different rates. I find that system a bit dodgy and a bit disconcerting because every time I used it, it seemed to go back to my old way of reading. I think about being forced and that changes my morality. This happens even though I know I’m supposed to be reading much faster.

System Five. One of the most popular methods today is mental photography. This is where the active participant reads at a reading speed of at least 25,000 words per minute. It’s wonderful when you apply the exercises that come after. Those who hit a home run after exercises.

System Six. There is another system called the Alfred Porter Reading Strategy. This system is much faster than mental photography and has follow-up exercises that show instant results. It makes you a believer. It uses and cross-references a number of different testing models and exercises, such as mind maps, multiple intelligences, preferred learning styles, affirmations, and some old and non-traditional methods. When you finish that program, you feel that your understanding has improved enormously.

System Seven. Photoreading is another powerful system and has results similar to mental photography. They are like brother and sister shows.

System Eight. The old fast and speed reading techniques can be applied. They have a place in today’s reading; however, it is used primarily when covering material that has already been reviewed. That way, quick and fast reading is great. Most of the students use fast and speed reading when preparing for exams and tests. They rarely use them when reading normally. Also many professionals, or anyone trying to prepare for a presentation or a quick review, generally relies on these approaches.

System Nine. You may find that reading sessions after energy drinks, coffee, or super vitamins can also increase your reading speed and comprehension.

System Ten. Try to read when you are not too tired and try to read interesting material. That will also cheer you up through old or new material.

System Eleven. If you absolutely hate reading, watch videos or movies first. Later read the book. Today they have the script for the film in book form at hand. That can also help you prepare for the material.

System Twelve. “Masterplots” is a great way to revisit a classic work. They may also have modern works available. With “master plots” or “quick notes” you can get a very good summary and if you add a lot of visualization you will find yourself enjoying your chosen work.

System Thirteen. Bribe yourself into reading, if it’s that boring for you.

System Fourteen. Read the material you have to read aloud and record it too. This would be a great practice if you have to review material.

System Fifteen. Search for recordings already made on the material or in your field of choice.

System Sixteen. Learn so much about your field of interest that every time you read or listen to something in your field, you will have a new energy and reading comprehension. You will read faster when you have more knowledge. Just think of a doctor reading a basic book on health and science. How fast do you think he or she could read the material?

System Seventeen. Ask someone to summarize and record your reading material, so you can listen to it as many times as possible.
