Will Ammunition Prices Drop in 2022?

Ammunition Prices Drop

Ammunition prices are likely to rise for a while. While the industry has begun to increase production, shortages of popular calibers, such as 9mm, will likely persist. Additionally, domestic distributors have said that meaningful supply changes will not occur until the summer of 2022.

The latest gun control legislation has had a dramatic effect on ammunition prices. Russia recently banned the import of certain types of ammo, triggering a panic buying frenzy. However, the ban is temporary, and existing permits from Russia will be honored for the next two years.

While these events will increase the demand for guns and ammunition, they won’t lower the price. This is because the shortage of ammo is caused by supply and demand. In the early 1990s, many shooters reported seeing sale prices as low as two cents per round, which would be about four cents in 2022 dollars. By 2018, the price had dropped to 2.5 cents, but it is still higher than 17 years ago. However, the demand for ammunition has been at an all-time high for several years.

There are several reasons for this. The biden victory, a general concern over COVID, and a growing fear of crime have increased demand for ammo. Additionally, the rise of terrorism, crime, and liberal policies have led to higher demand for firearms and ammunition.

Ammo makers are investing in new facilities to produce more ammo. In addition, importers are bringing in tons of ammo. Some of these companies include well-established names, such as Aguila, Eley, and Fiocchi. Some newer brands include Belom and PMC, and there are unestablished brands like Turan.

This is an excellent thing for consumers and for the shooting sports industry. However, it can be difficult to maintain good relationships with customers while dealing with this shortage. As a result, many shops had to raise their prices to match the increases made by their suppliers. The resulting price hikes upset some customers and some even accused the shops of price gouging.

Throughout the year, ammo prices fluctuate. Certain months are better than others. After the holidays, for example, and after hunting season, ammunition prices will drop. This is because hunters take a break and demand for ammunition drops. These factors, along with news and events, can drive the price up and down.

Ammo prices have been affected by supply problems for the past two years. The United States is facing a shortage of primers, which are imported from overseas. Imports of lead and brass from Asia are also experiencing similar delays. Additionally, manufacturers are experiencing short staffing and distribution issues, which are making it more difficult to produce ammo.

The shortage has affected some gun retailers more than others. Art Bridge’s Paso Robles gun shop was the first to be impacted by the ammo shortage. He says he only realized that the shortage happened shortly after COVID-19 (March 2020). Dave Tobel, owner of the Armadillo Gun Store & Range in Helena, Montana, says that the store had little shotgun and big game ammo when the hunting season began last year.
