Can the Los Angeles Dodgers win the World Series?

The Los Angeles Dodgers have the second-best record in baseball, but you rarely hear about them when people mention the World Series contenders for 2009. You hear about the Yankees, Red Sox, and Angels in the American League and in the National League. , these are the Philadelphia Phillies and the St. Louis Cardinals. I wouldn’t be surprised if there were people who thought the Rockies have a better shot at the World Series than the LA Dodgers.

Despite this, this is a team that has won 90 games and should finish the 2009 regular season with between 95 and 100 wins. This is very impressive, and even more impressive when you consider the fact that the team has been at the top of its division for basically the entire season.

The Dodgers are one of those teams that just gets overlooked when it comes to this year’s playoff picture. Maybe it has to do with the fact that they came out quickly in last year’s playoffs. Maybe it has to do with the fact that there are no great power hitters on the team, except for Manny Ramirez (whose power has diminished, as he has only 19 long balls this season).

Does anyone know who AndrĂ© Ethier is? If you’re not an avid baseball fan, you probably won’t recognize the name. What about Matt Kemp? James Loney luckily? And that’s the story of the 2009 Los Angeles Dodgers. No big names, but efficient baseball from start to finish.

Don’t count the Dodgers out when it comes time for the playoffs. This team is real.
