How to create your Mexican tile rug. Use the twelve or sixteen inch squares on the entire bathroom floor, except where you will place the rug. Then make a border using smaller tiles. These can be broken pieces, colored tiles, patterned tiles or just the small saltillo tile. Then fill the center with six-inch diagonally laid Mexican saltillo tiles. A great way to get that Mexican flair is to paint a bold stripe in a chile red or Tucson teal at chair rail height around the room. Paint a lighter color at the top and another bold color at the bottom of the wall. You can also use brightly colored Mexican tiles for your stripe or paint or stencil Mexican-style designs on your stripe.

Your Mexican style bathroom vanity. Find an old dresser or buy a rustic Mexican chest or make a hole for the sink. Use a Mexican Talavera ceramic sink, or buy a cobalt blue, sunflower yellow, aquamarine, or red sink. Use bright patterned or solid Mexican tile on top of your vanity. Or just waterproof the wood with a sealer. If you’re not changing your vanity, sink, or countertop, paint the base of the cabinet either solid or dry-brush a bold color.

Your Mexican-style bathroom mirror can be framed in iron, polished tin or copper. A heavily carved frame can work and can be painted. There are also the shiny tin framed mirrors with the inset Mexican tiles.

Bathroom fixtures for a Mexican-style bathroom. Replace shiny brass or silver faucets with dark rustic fixtures. Look at styles in antique bronze. If you change your sink fixtures, don’t forget the tub and shower for your overall Mexican style bathroom.

Mexican style bathroom lighting. Hang a wrought-iron or rustic chandelier over each vanity sink. Sconces on either side of the mirror also work well. If you use the candle holder, the wrought iron candle holders with scrolls to hold pillar candles are totally Mexican in style. Dim the lights for those relaxing baths.

Mexican designer style bathroom accessories. Bright and bold colors, scrolled ironwork, real Mexican serapes and Mexican pottery. Bright painted wood and Mexican woven or appliquéd wall hangings will bring your Mexican-style bathroom together.

Paint an old chair a bright turquoise and place a stack of brightly colored towels on the seat. Grab a bright serape striped fabric to make a valance over your shower curtain rod, or hang a piece of fabric south of the edge from ceiling to floor to hide your open shower curtain. Use a solid or bright floral print shower curtain to complement.

Hang a piece of wall art that you love where you can see it as you soak in the tub. Your Mexican wall art can be a framed print, a Mexican quilt or sconce, or wrought iron with scrollwork. Use Mexican ceramic bathroom sink accessories. Use a small Mexican pot or cup to store your toothbrushes and salsa, you have your bathroom Mexican style!
