Diaper Bag Basics 101: The Top 10 Life-Saving Items To Keep In Your Baby’s Diaper Bag

Do you feel like nesting? The list is long when it comes to being prepared for the arrival of a newborn. One item that will help you prepare and put your mind at ease is having your baby’s diaper bag packed. So let’s take a minute and talk about the top 10 items to have in your diaper bag.

1. disposable or cloth diapers – I would keep at least 5 diapers in there in case you have multiple changes while you’re away. Occasionally, he may go through 2 diapers in an attempt to change one. Some days, your little one just won’t sit completely still for you. All that movement can cause you to drop the clean diaper in a puddle of water! Now if I only had one extra diaper, that would be a problem. Who knows, but trust me, crazy moments will happen. And when they do, he just stops and smiles, but luckily you packed a few extra diapers for any mishaps along the way, so no problem.

two. wipes – Wipes are great for everything! The wipes are not only for cleaning dirty buttocks, but also sticky hands and faces or toys that have fallen on the floor. Make sure any container you carry them in is airtight. There is nothing worse than reaching for a washcloth only to find that they have dried. I also keep a box of baby wipes in the glove compartment of the car at all times for just in case. It never fails when we go out. I look in the rearview mirror and wonder if someone looked them in the face before we left the house. No problem, I can walk over and grab a washcloth so everyone can quickly wash their faces.

3. Cream – I always use Destin, but whatever your cream preference, you should always carry at least one travel-size container with you. Diaper rashes will appear from time to time, can you imagine being buckled in a car seat with a diaper rash? For God’s sake, don’t forget the cream!

Four. burp cloth – Of course, for burping, but can be used as a towel for any messy spills. I think one is pretty self explanatory.

5. Beverage – Whether you bring some milk, water, or juice, it’s nice to have something on hand. Diaper bags with exterior drink pockets are wonderful!

6. Appetizers – Cheerios are great when babies are just starting to eat solid foods. As a bonus, they keep your little one busy for quite some time. So if you’re in a restaurant waiting for your food, it’s the perfect appetizer. Whatever snack you have, make sure it’s a snack they love.

7. toy – find his favorite toy and make sure you have it packed. Of course, if you forget the toy, the keys to it will always be a great substitute.

8. extra clothes – Just an extra set of clothes for any spills or messes you might find while you’re out.

9. medical kit – Band-Aids, Neosporin, tweezers and toenail clippers are always at the top of my list. Band-Aids are also a great toy if nothing in your bag of tricks works. A band attendant will not only keep them happy while they try to unwrap it as a bonus, it acts as a sticker.

10 plastic or ziplock bag – For those messy diapers, sometimes you may be in a house where you just don’t want to leave a stink bomb in the trash, maybe your mother-in-law. If that’s the case, simply seal it off and dispose of it when possible.

I hope you have enjoyed the list of essential items that I think are essential in everyone’s baby diaper bag. You know your baby best and you’ll quickly find out what he likes or doesn’t like. There will be a lot of crazy moments happening with kids, being prepared makes it so much easier to laugh at them when they happen.
