Simple Tips to Improve and Simplify Your Travel Packing

It doesn’t matter if you’re packing for a long or short trip, whether it’s for business or pleasure, one way to save time to get started is to make and use a list. Using a checklist, it will be easy to check off all items to make sure nothing is left out and all items are absolutely necessary. Include the list in your luggage as a handy guide so you don’t forget things when repacking.

When deciding which items of clothing to pack, mixing and matching items saves space and tends to reduce the number of outfits actually needed. If possible, select one or two pairs of shoes that go with most outfits.

Another important rule of thumb is don’t be fooled by the sheer number of travel gadgets out there. Many of these not only don’t work properly, but take up packing space. A simple rule of thumb to consider is: if it’s not a smaller version of something you can’t live without while traveling, then don’t pack it. One travel item that is of the utmost importance, however, is clear and unique luggage tags. A unique tag makes it easier to spot your luggage on busy, fast-moving carousels when you’re tired after a long-haul flight.

Scanning important data like passport, ID photos, paper tickets and other travel documents into an email account like Yahoo or Hotmail can be very useful and easily accessible if the need arises. It is also helpful to include the numbers to report lost cell phones, credit cards, traveler’s checks, and your travel insurance policy. When packing these items, spread them out among the bags and don’t include all of them, especially cash, in your carry-on.

Pack clothes in easy-to-open plastic bags, organizing them either by outfit or by item like socks, underwear, etc. optimizes space and provides comfort in case of baggage inspection. If you’re traveling with others, distributing a packed outfit for each person among your group’s bags prevents hiccups with baggage arrival. Plastic bags must be used for personal care items and these items must be contained in small, clearly labeled, regulation-size containers. Buying many of these items in travel size will save inspection time and valuable space.

Medical and travel insurance is definitely a must-have. Some companies include certain medical coverage with travel insurance to provide emergency medical care, medical consultation, treatment and access to prescription drug referrals. Travel insurance also offers protection for lost tickets, flight delays and any accidents on board public transport. Make sure you find the most acceptable coverage required for your needs and have a great trip.
