Holiday villas and apartments for rent in Mallorca – A fantastic solution for a family holiday?

Mallorca is the largest of the Balearic Islands and some would say that it is the best island for booking holiday villas or apartments. I’m sure the ten million people who visit the island every year and book holiday accommodation in Spain, be it a hotel room, a luxury holiday villa in Spain or a modest apartment here, would definitely agree. Mallorca can be a fantastic destination for families with children of all ages, as it offers many family resorts such as Cala San Vicenza or Puerto Pollensa, which are close to sandy beaches that have safe, shallow waters and good facilities nearby.

Families often find that there can be many benefits to booking self-catering rental accommodation in Spain rather than hotel accommodation, especially if you have young children. If you choose vacation villas or apartments booked directly with the property owner, you are in an ideal position to ask questions about the property or location before you travel. If you want to travel light, you may want to know what services are offered in a holiday villa in Spain. If you have a washer and dryer you will not have to pack as many clothes and the same goes for beach towels and equipment. Knowing what to bring and what to leave behind can make life so much easier when traveling with a family.

Some people choose self-catering vacation villas or apartments so they can cook for themselves. Many people prefer this if they have children (or adults) who don’t eat unfamiliar foods. In Mallorca, the restaurants in the tourist areas tend to cater to Northern European tastes and you will have to seek out authentic Spanish food. Most supermarkets stock German and British produce, as well as Majorcan produce, so if you want to cook your own meals on your Spain holiday, villa or apartment rental in Spain, you should be able to find some familiar ingredients.

Traveling with children to your rented holiday villas or apartments in Mallorca is less stressful if you organize yourself before you go. If you decide to fly to Mallorca you will want to prevent the children from getting bored and cranky during the trip. For toddlers, why not pack a bag full of simple toys and games to keep them entertained on the road? Put in some familiar things and a few little surprise items. For older kids, MP3 players or handheld game consoles are ideal, but remember to bring chargers or plenty of batteries! We also recommend that you pack some snacks and drinks for the kids so they don’t get too hungry or thirsty on the way.

Although the main attraction for booking holiday villas or apartments in Mallorca may be the fabulous beaches and the good weather, the island has more than that. When you feel like a change from the beach or the pool, try a day trip to Palma, the beautiful capital of Mallorca. There you can see the impressive gothic architecture of La Seu cathedral or stroll through the winding streets or just stroll through the shops and then spend a pleasant hour or two having lunch in one of the excellent restaurants. If you don’t want to travel too far, most of the towns in Mallorca have weekly markets, where you can buy local products, as well as some nice souvenirs and gifts.

Once you’ve booked your vacation villas or apartments and flights, there are a couple of other things you need to organize. One of them is car rental and the other is travel insurance. If you want to explore the island and go beyond the beach, you may want to consider renting a car. You can arrange this before you go, but remember to bring your driver’s license. Another important consideration is vacation travel insurance. Some people don’t bother with travel insurance or only have minimal cover, but it’s worth contacting a reputable insurance broker and getting advice on the type of cover you need.
