How to use music to encourage walking

One of the great exercises you can do to get in shape is walking. However, walking can get very boring when you have to walk along similar paths and routes every day and you will need to liven up your walking routines with some music to inject new life and dynamism into your training.

While there are different ways to listen to music while you walk, you should figure out the way you like best so you don’t get bored with your walking routine after a while.

The following tips will help you choose the best style for listening to music while walking:

Tip 1- It is preferable that you make use of an MP3 player instead of a portable CD player when you want to combine listening to music with walking. This is because it’s hard to put on a CD player while walking, and you probably don’t like the idea of having to hold the device while you walk; there is also a very high probability that the device will slip out of your hands by swinging your arms while walking.

Tip 2- Get a good pair of comfortable headphones. Although large, full-ear headphones produce better sound, they’re not really designed for walking around, so you’re better off using headphones that can fit in or around your ears.

However, because headphones that sit directly in your ear tend to fall out easily, it’s best to use headphones that come with a piece of plastic that wraps around your ear to hold the speaker close to the inside of your ear; this piece of plastic holds the earpiece in place without being forced into the inside of the ear.

Tip 3: When you walk, it is highly recommended that you wear an MP3 player arm strap that fits around your arm as a blood pressure measuring device; this is better than putting this device in your pocket where it can slip out when you walk fast.

Tip 4-Choose songs that have an up tempo that matches the pace at which you will be walking; If you want to walk at a brisk pace, you can choose music that plays at a speed of 120 to 140 beats per minute.

Tip 5-Listen to songs that motivate you to move more; you have to create a music library and you have to create different folders for the different types of music you like to listen to when you exercise.

Tip 6-Test the different types of songs you have stored on your player by playing them while you walk and choose the ones you enjoy the most while eliminating the ones that don’t really suit your taste. This way, you’ll be able to create an animated playlist that you can use when you’re out for a walk.
