Oxford Beef Recipe

The Classic Beef Oxford recipe is one of my all-time favorites. It’s a really hearty meal for the whole family to enjoy or if you’re having guests over, as it’s so simple and won’t take up much time once you get all the ingredients for the Beef Oxford recipe on the go.

The ingredients that are here for Beef Oxford are for 4-6 people.

3 pound cook-off steak

1.5o flour

2 oz drip

salt and ground pepper

8oz onions, peeled and sliced (1 large or 2 medium onions)

2 gloves of garlic

4 oz mushrooms, cleaned and sliced

1 green bell pepper, sliced

2 tablespoons apricot jam

1/2 pint of red wine

1/2 beef broth

Cooking time 2-2.5 hours

1. Cut the meat into pieces, put in a polythene bag or bowl with the flour and stir until covered.

2. Melt the curd in a pan and quickly fry the meat until golden brown.

3. Add all the remaining ingredients, including any leftover flour, bring to the bowl

4. Cover and simmer for 2 to 2.5 hours or until meat is tender.

5. Be sure to stir it from time to time.

Variations of Beef Oxford include:

New potatoes – To fill up the Oxford meat dish a bit, why not add some half-cut new potatoes into the pot after about half an hour? Be sure to keep an eye on the fuel level, as you may need more as it starts to run low.

Sultana’s – If you have a sweet tooth you can add a handful of saltanas after about half an hour, make sure you buy the good quality ones as they contain more juice.

Mushrooms: With the Oxford beef recipe it is not specified which mushrooms to use. Chestnut are probably the best, but you can try others (Oyster, Shittake). If you use the chestnut mushrooms, keep them whole, as they shrink a lot in size once cooked and make the dish more lumpy.

Beef Broth – To make this dish even more special, you can buy ready-made quality beef broth available in all supermarkets now. This will give the dish more flavor and add flavors making them richer.

Beef Steaks – Why not try cooking whole pieces of beef steak (one for each person) instead of the smaller cut pieces? This may cost a bit more, but would be great if you have guests.
