Top IT Certs 2016: Your Recession Proof Career

For many IT professionals, their work is what they do day after day. An understanding of the big picture is rarely thought about. Very few will take the time to understand where their department fits on the bottom line. For example, “Can my department be replaced or totally scrapped?”, “How many coworkers are doing exactly what I do?”, “Is the company expanding using my skill set or phasing it out? ” Management is constantly looking for ROI. Its value depends solely on what you bring to the table. No one will be paid seventy dollars to bring fifty.

Today’s economic horizon looks pretty bleak. Millions of Americans are burdened to become victims of downsizing, downsizing, downsizing, or simply laying off. Personnel in the IT field can be particularly affected, especially those who are not up to date with the technology they support. However, does this mean doom for everyone? No! It means that the complete professional improves his game. At times like these, someone reviews expenses and makes decisions about where to cut. This is where your input is compared to your output. Are you an asset or a liability?

Therefore, this raises the question, “what can the employee do?”

The first step I recommend is to research where your business is headed. What are your plans for the future? One will be amazed at the amount of information that can be found on the company’s website. If your company has a Twitter account, read them. Even better if the CEO tweets. Follow your company’s social media program, if there is one. Expressing gratitude to your employer is invaluable.

The second step is to look at your company’s job openings. These reveal what the company is looking for and its immediate or long-term needs. Getting certified to fit the needs of your business is a no-brainer, as it’s already in. Get a professional designation:

* CCSK, Certificate of Cloud Security Knowledge by Cloud Security Alliance

* CPCRM, Certified Cloud Risk Management Professional, awarded and accredited by the Academy of Professional Alliance

* CISSP, Certified Information Systems Security Professional by ISC2 Org.

The trend of reduced spending means that the employer needs professionals who save money, more than those who spend. IT governance is one of the most hidden areas of IT. More closely aligning information technology with an organization and governing investments is a major concern of the Board of Directors and executive management.

* CAP, Authorized Professional Certified by ISC2

* CAWC, Certified Authority on Workers’ Compensation

* CISA, ISACA Certified Information Systems Auditor

You need to adjust your attitude to address recession fears. Economic turbulence can be used to weather the storm. The answer, fly over! Rarely does an entire company die at once. There will always be departments that are successful. These must be sought. Exciting opportunities can arise when you least expect them, just be on the lookout. Keep your resume up-to-date and up-to-date. Advertise its importance and make sure you get credit for your work. Regardless of your inner fears, if any, show enthusiasm. Find or volunteer for projects.

You are encouraged to look at the following:

* CEH … Ethical hacking certified by EC-Council

* CASP … CompTIA Advanced Security Professional

* GSEC … WITHOUT GIAC Security Essentials

* Security + … CompTIA

Professionals who have acquired the CISSP designation can advance this certification by pursuing any of the three CISSP concentrations offered by ISC2.

* Architecture (CISSP-ISSAP)

* Engineering (CISSP-ISSEP)

* Management (CISSP-ISSMP)

One can never go wrong with any CISCO certificate and CCNA / CCNP / CCIE are still in high demand. However, before you log into any program, do your groundwork.

* Be realistic and filter out amazing promises.

* assess relevance to your work

* Can I handle the workload based on my current commitments?

* Is this program practical, online or in the classroom?

* read reviews from previous students

* Can I do a five-day bootcamp or do I need a less hectic pace?

* Relax, we rarely make the right decisions when pressured.

* If possible, have a one-on-one with your instructor. It’s best to start working on a relationship before sitting down in class.

* If it sounds too good, it most likely isn’t.

The future may seem dark, but for some it may be bright. Good luck and God bless you.
