A tour of East Java and Mount Bromo in Indonesia

I want to tell my experience about my trip to East Java, especially Mount Bromo, when I was still in high school, 12 years ago. I went with my parents, my uncle, my friend and a driver. Our family started the tour from Bogor to Tegal, Central Java. We stayed one night at the hotel.

The next day, we start our journey from Tegal to Surabaya, East Java. We spend the night at the Garden Hotel in Jl. Pemuda Surabaya. The next day we finished the trip. We chose the route from Surabaya, Sidoarjo, Pasuruan, and stopped in Gending, a small town, about 12 km east of Probolinggo to meet an old friend.

In the afternoon we head to Mount Bromo via Probolinggo. When we reached Probolinggo, our car turned south. During our journey, we pass through jati forests and pure air. Finally we arrived at the hotel. At that time we couldn’t see the beautiful scenery from the hotel because of the darkness. The weather turned cold and we had to wear thick clothes. We had dinner in a small restaurant near the hotel. After dinner, we sleep.

When I was still asleep, at two in the morning my parents woke me up. I didn’t know what happened. There was an earthquake. A funny thing happened, my friend directly brushed his teeth when he woke up. He thought we wanted to start seeing the scenery. In fact, it was just an earthquake. After that we fell asleep again.

At 4 in the morning, the hotel manager wakes us up to be ready to go to Pananjakan by jeep, a strategic place to observe the beautiful landscape of Mount Bromo, Mount Batok and Mount Semeru.

Time passed. It was a pity that we couldn’t see the rising sun because of the cloudy sky. We were still lucky because of the good weather that we could see the beautiful landscape. The three mountains are located in a National Park. Mount Semeru is the highest mountain on the island of Java. My father took photos of the beautiful landscape of the National Park.

When it was clear, we went back to the hotel. From the hotel, we ride through the sand of the sea heading towards the crater. We went up some stairs to the top. At the top we could clearly see the crater of Mount Bromo, which is still filled with smoke.

After that we return to the hotel and our mountain trip is over. We then headed to Malang, a cold town south of Surabaya. After visiting a recreational park near Malang, we stayed at the hotel. The next day we went back to Bogor and our trip to East Java ended.
