Building strong family ties – Investing in our children

The undermining of morale in our time is a reality. The rapid moral decline in the second half of the 20th century has caused more and more people to set aside old values. Media culture has now become the new value carriers who often have little or no sense of responsibility for the harmful value they are providing. Without high ideals, it is easy for even the best of homes to fall apart, for no house can be a true home unless those who live there have kind, noble, and good ideals, and where good character is cultivated and developed through the years.

Much of what our children will be depends on us. As parents, we are influencing our children for better or worse. Through teaching, setting an example, being a model in everything we say, do and live, we can set them on the path to becoming the useful, creative and active people of tomorrow. We invest in our children by:

-ensure that all your physical, emotional, social and intellectual needs are met

-teach children moral and spiritual values and family traditions

A happy home built on a foundation of love

The best asset any child can have is a happy home and loving, caring parents. Happy homes produce happy children. Nothing can match the joy of living in a happy home that provides a place of peace, rest, and relaxation for the entire family. There, strong family ties are forged, generating a feeling of togetherness and a sense of belonging that provides unforgettable memories of good times.

Each family must preserve its cultural assets and its faith through family participation and the practice of religious and traditional customs. It is what you know about your culture that will make you proud of your heritage. And faith gives strength, inspiration and a sense of being part of something much bigger than we could imagine. Spiritual occasions like Christmas and Easter and other important occasions like birthdays, anniversaries, Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, traditional holidays and any other important day or event that may be important to the family should be given the consideration they deserve. These happy occasions keep the family together.

Family and proper nutrition

One of the most important goals for any family should be proper nutrition. What you do for your family now will follow them for a lifetime. Developing good eating habits in the family is fundamental and sensible thinking about what we eat, how we eat and when we eat. Two reasons why people do not have a healthy diet are poor choice and ignorance of food values. Food has an important relationship with our health, since many of today’s health problems stem from excessive consumption of inappropriate foods. And there are limits to how much abuse the body can take through major health risks such as smoking, alcohol, food abuse, and drug abuse. Unhealthy habits take hold little by little, and once addicted, it can be the beginning of the end for that person.

Help your children develop natural talents

Helping your children develop natural talents is your best guarantee for a brighter and more successful future. Parents should be actively involved in their children’s studies and activities and should be encouraged to read a wide variety of books. Reading books will progressively broaden their horizons, broaden their interests, and provide them with a continuous source of inspiration. They should also be given the opportunity to learn to play a musical instrument, participate in a favorite sport, or join a club such as Boy Scouts and Girl Guides that meet the needs of children seeking companionship and common goals.
