honeymoon destination ideas

The honeymoon is the long-awaited vacation after the wedding that the couple uses to spend some time alone with the newlyweds. While most couples look forward to their honeymoon, deciding on the perfect honeymoon spot isn’t always easy. It is best to discuss what type of honeymoon both partners expect before selecting the location and package. Here are some ideas for you to consider when planning your honeymoon.

Cruise ships

Cruise vacations are great because almost all expenses are paid for in an all-inclusive package. Lodging, food and entertainment are included in cruise packages. Additional expenses you may incur are shore excursions, cocktails, spa services, and souvenirs. Cruises are wonderful for honeymooners because they offer a combination of relaxation and sightseeing, and if you don’t want to follow the crowd, you can do whatever you want. Cruise vacations are also delightful, because you can visit more than one destination without having to carry luggage, change hotels, or travel by plane. Many cruise lines offer honeymoon packages and give special treatment and bonuses to honeymooning couples. Some popular cruise destinations are: Hawaii, Bahamas, Caribbean, Alaska, Greece, Mediterranean Sea and Mexico. Check with your travel agent and cruise line before you book, usually one will have a honeymoon-only deal, special or package.

Major cities

Maybe you always wanted to see the bright lights of the Big Apple (NY) or maybe you always wanted to kiss next to the Eiffel tower. Major cities like New York, London, Paris, and Rome are great honeymoon spots, offering plenty of tourist attractions, history, great food, and fabulous nightlife. Some hotels in these places may offer a honeymoon package or honeymoon suite, so it would be best to look for deals online and through travel agents. However, remember that this type of honeymoon can be less relaxing because you’ll spend more time exploring city life.

tropical rentals

Whether you’re traveling to the Caribbean or the Pacific, tropical locations offer a relaxing, laid-back atmosphere with plenty to do if you get bored. Many islands offer water activities such as boating, jet skiing, snorkeling, and scuba diving. Most tropical islands have a rich natural environment that you can explore through tours such as rainforests, lagoons, and coral reefs. Some hotels on the island contain casinos and many offer exuberant nightlife. Although tropical island locations are very popular with honeymooners because they can kick back and relax after stressful wedding planning, be sure to check the local weather for the month you’ll be traveling. Some places will be much warmer than others and some may be in the path of hurricanes and other natural events during the time you plan to vacation there.

non-traditional honeymoons

Maybe you both have a love for something different. If so, by all means enjoy your dreams together. If you both want to go backpacking in Europe, this is your chance. If you prefer hiking or mountain climbing, go for it! If you both love snow and cold weather, book a ski trip. If you’ve always wanted to explore the jungle, go on safari. This is your only chance to experience the ride of a lifetime for the first time as a newlywed couple. The earliest memories of your marriage will be from your wedding and honeymoon, so select a location that you both love.

Some suggested honeymoon destinations are:

Any of the Caribbean Islands, Mexico, South Pacific Islands, Europe, Africa and USA (Hawaii, Alaska, Niagara Falls, Grand Canyon, Poconos, Las Vegas, New York, Orlando).
