How to ask the question

Google it and you will find 258 million results on the various ways to propose marriage. You have to make your marriage proposal personal; use your creativity to get ready to pop up that special question.

Why is the proposal necessary? Why do you have to? Will it somehow improve their relationship? Is the proposal a must in a relationship, or can you kill it because it was only invented by enterprising businessmen to increase their engagement ring sales? It’s popping the question, “Will you marry me?” while on your knees really romantic?

history of the proposal

The marriage proposal dates back to the Old Testament of the Holy Bible.

Marriage is sacred and preparation for it is essential to consuming a lasting relationship. Making the proposal on one’s knees has no historical origin but the act signifies faith, honor and surrender. We normally kneel when praying, so proposing on one’s knees is like one’s faithful commitment to the love of her life. Knights kneel as kings and queens bestow honors on them; proposing on your knees is waiting for your girlfriend to respect and accept your marriage proposal. Proposing on your knees is like telling your girlfriend that you completely surrender to your relationship and that you promise to make her happy forever.

Preparation for the proposal

For most women, the proposal is one of the most anticipated moments of their lives.

They fantasize about it, they daydream about it, and they hope it’s very romantic. It is for this very reason that the groom strives to make the moment very special and memorable. The groom does a tedious preparation for the proposal date. He chooses a sentimental place, a place that they love and has a special meaning for their relationship. Sometimes he will share this special moment with family and friends by inviting them to the event itself or asking them to help him prepare for the event. He would hire a photographer and a videographer to document his special moment. If the venue calls for it, he will add romantic music or his theme song during the proposal. To heighten the excitement, he can add flowers to decorate the place of his choosing as a symbol of his love. Normally, he would ask the big question towards the evening; being the evening more romantic than a morning or afternoon proposal. He prepares for his speech, as the words would mean everything to his bride-to-be. He needs to speak the words from her heart. All these preparations should be appreciated and flaunted before his children and grandchildren. The material symbol, the engagement ring, is normally passed on to the next generation.

However, no matter how memorable, romantic, and cheesy a proposal may be, it is no guarantee of a successful marriage. The proposal can be a reminder to the couple that they share lovely times and because of these happy memories, they should reconsider the separation when hard times come. However, the proposal, that long-awaited memory, will not guarantee a complete and lasting marriage.
