The five best homeless movies

Everyone loves a good homeless story. Seeing the guy who’s been canceled and scorned laughs for the last time; see the little one with the odds against him going to achieve greatness. It’s no wonder that some of the greatest and longest-running movies of all time are stories of the homeless.

But which ones are the best? What are the most inspiring? Here’s a countdown to five of the best movie losers. It is not intended to be a definitive list, this should promote thought and debate: who would be one of the five favorites in the movie?

5. The Jamaica Bobsleigh Team – Cool Runnings (1993)

Ok, I’m not saying this movie is a classic, but it’s a fantastically entertaining losers story. Based on a true story, Cool Runnings follows the first Jamaican bobsled team on their journey to the 1988 Calgary Winter Olympics where, upon arrival, the team is widely mocked and fired. The Jamaican team made impressive improvements over the course of the competition and their determination and spirit won the support of the crowd – they finished their final race to enthusiastic cheers and applause, despite having to carry the sled to the finish line after an accident.

4. The Spartans – 300 (2006)

Before the Battle of Thermopylae, the Spartans were never considered the weakest due to their legendary abilities on the battlefield. This time, however, it is different. Let me set the scene; It is 480 BC. C. and King Ahasuerus of Persia is determined to conquer Greece at any cost. All that stands between his army of over 100,000 and victory are 300 Spartan warriors led by the fearless King Leonidas. Leonidas enters the Battle of Thermopylae knowing it is a suicide mission, but intending to buy time for the rest of the Greek force to mobilize, defeating as many Persians as possible in the process. Tell an absolute carnage and series of events that hands down qualify as one of the greatest homeless stories ever.

3. Andy Dufresne – Shawshank’s Redemption (1994)

First of all, yes, that’s how Dufresne is spelled. This modern classic tells the story of Andy Dufresne, a successful banker who, despite insisting that he is innocent, is convicted of killing his wife and lover. Dufresne endures brutal prison conditions for years, clinging to the hope that one day he will be a free man. It’s the fact that Dufresne is such an atypical prisoner that makes him such a loser: He enters Shawshank Prison looking vulnerable and ill-equipped for life as a prisoner, but uses his intellect and wits to become the most influential inmate in the world. everyone.

2. William Wallace – Braveheart (1995)

Wallace begins life as an oppressed commoner in medieval Scotland, whose father and brother have died fighting the English. Definitely a loser then. Braveheart follows Wallace’s fight to unite Scotland against the oppressive English regime and avenge the death of his childhood sweetheart. Braveheart, part fictional and part historical, is a truly inspiring homeless tale.

1. Rocky Balboa – Rocky (1976)

Rocky is a small-time boxer who struggles to get something out of his career when he gets the chance of a lifetime. Heavyweight champion Apollo Creed visits Philadelphia for an exhibition match, intended to be an easy win for Creed, but touted as an opportunity for a nobody to become somebody. Being dismissed as a ‘bum’ who has passed his prime only makes Rocky more determined to fight and, in doing so, build a better life for himself and his girlfriend Adrian.

So there you have it, five brave underdogs and five heartwarming stories of fearlessness in the face of adversity. Who is your number one loser?
