When choosing what to wear to a concert, you need these 3 rules

The clothes you wear to a concert depends on the concert you are going to see. Are you going to see the Rolling Stones or Yo-Yo Ma? Will you see Snoop Dog or the Beach Boys? These are wildly different events and experiences. Can you imagine someone in a Hawaiian shirt and cargo shorts shaking their head at a Snoop Dog concert? There are some tips that can be offered to help you decide what to wear to a concert … look at the artists themselves. What will the artist wear to his own concert?

The rock concert will feature the lead singer in tight pants and a T-shirt. There may be a wild element, for example the lead singer could be wearing a pair of leopard print skinny pants. You probably won’t feel out of place in a pair of skinny pants and a T-shirt. For just a touch of glamor, you may want to wear the pants with heels or wear your outfit with a pair of oversized, dangling earrings.

At the classical music concert, the musicians will be wearing tuxedos, suits and attire, so you will probably want to dress similarly. Here’s another tip, when in doubt, dress too much. It is more comfortable to be overdressed than underdressed. Trust me, you’ll be breathing a sigh of relief should a photo appear on Facebook.

The hip hop artist’s wardrobe will consist of T-shirts, hoodies and jeans. However, if you’re going to see someone like Kanye West, then you can sport a little more prep flair and not look out of place. You will probably be wearing a blazer or leather jacket so you can safely wear those items to be a stylish member of the audience.

When an artist is deciding what to wear on their tour, they are making a decision about what kind of atmosphere they want the event to have, so it is perfectly appropriate to follow the cues on their clothing.

When deciding what to wear to the concert, remember these rules:

  1. Follow the artist / band style cues. Going to a Lady Gaga concert doesn’t mean you should wear a meat dress, but it does mean that you can be a bit more wild and eccentric in your outfit.
  2. When in doubt, dress too much … a little. This doesn’t mean putting on a ball gown to see U2, but maybe putting on some prettier accessories or shoes.
  3. Be more elegant and choose an “amazing” piece for your outfit. Whether it’s a pair of red jeans, a rhinestone clutch, or an oversized ring. Make an element of your outfit the “wow” and maybe even steal some of the attention.

Finding out what to wear to the concert is easy, when you follow the simple rules and follow the artist who inspired you to pay an exorbitant amount of money for a concert ticket. But hey, we all get it. Barry Manilow is worth the price of the ticket. Rock On!
