When is it time to cancel your marriage?
I have handled all kinds of conflicts in marriage and have helped the couples involved to resolve those problems successfully. However, there is a critical factor that gives me hope that the conflict in the marriage can be resolved: “the desire for it to work!”
As long as one or both members of the couple have completely lost the desire to restore the relationship, it is hardly possible for that marriage to continue. This is a red flag that is removed is necessary for the good of each partner. Therefore, all failed marriages can be restored except one, “the marriage that has lost the couple’s desire to make it work.”
I even asked one of the grooms to say, “Just a little desire may encourage me to try it, but I can’t find any!” If your marriage has reached this point, it is most likely time to end your marriage. When a couple or both partners do not even care again to the point of not wanting to make any effort to save the marriage, then that marriage is headed for total disintegration.
When someone’s emotions have been terribly battered repeatedly, it’s certainly hard to want to try again! And not only do they try again, they are not even ready to remarry after quitting. So some troubled marriages may not survive. But once there is a desire to try again despite the seemingly desperate condition of the relationship, don’t undermine the power of so little desire – that marriage can flourish again!
